About Lauren

My story begins with two musical parents who met singing in Chautauqua Chamber Singers, a group my mom helped form in 1978. They were my first music teachers, encouraging me to sing everywhere from the school talent show to the Tuscany International Children’s Chorus Festival.

I have a legacy of many other amazing music educators from my life to thank:

Mrs. Galloway who made space for exploration, movement and fun at CC Ring Elementary School.

Mr. Alpaugh who always inspired and supported me (listen, he had a poster of “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” album up in our middle school chorus room), and shared his unbelievable chops on the keys.

Nancy Krestic who directed the Chautauqua Children’s Chorale and held us to the highest standard of rehearsal etiquette, music literacy, and healthy vocal production.

Ron Graham and Steve Swanson who nurtured and encouraged me to explore any genre of music that lit my soul up at Infinity Performing Arts.

Dr. Grant, Dr. Ortega, Dr. Howell, the Drs. Denton (Mrs. & Mr.), and others who cared so deeply about the success of their future music teachers and created the coziest and most comprehensive music ed department at Edinboro University.

Walter Beasley who gave my voice a place to shine in his ensemble at Berklee College of Music.

Carla Kihlstedt, Ravi Krishnaswami, John Mallia, John Fitz Rogers, and others who guided me through unexplored creative territory, welcoming me into a loving Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA Music Composition Program family.

Thanks to the example and help of these talented and seasoned educators, I have been enjoying teaching elementary general music, grades K-5, and middle school chorus in Brookline, MA for 10 years.

In addition to learning, singing, teaching, writing music and creating digital resources for the elementary and middle school music classroom, I love to be outside: walking our two shiba inu dogs, helping our kid learn to hike (fun times) and getting my hands dirty growing food and flowers.

Thank you for being here and letting me share my story with you!
